Marine Renewable Energy Solutions Design

Ship owners, shipyards and vessel operators are increasingly looking to incorporate marine renewable energy & hybrid power technologies into the mipatrolboat_short_web_largex of propulsion & power systems for their vessels.

Not only do these technologies reduce noxious gas emissions but they also reduce fuel consumption and deliver cost savings to vessel operators and/or owners.

To help develop the right solution for each vessel or ship, Eco Marine Power works globally with its strategic partners to design eco-friendly marine power systems that include the latest solar power, wind power and energy management technologies.

Some of these unique solutions are design concepts exclusively developed by Eco Marine Power (EMP) such as the Tonbo Solar-Electric Hybrid Ferry ('Tonbo') and Medaka Eco Commuter Ferry ('Medaka') or include technologies developed in co-operation with, or supplied by, our strategic technology partners both in Japan and overseas.

Trying to work out which environmentally friendly power system is best for a particular boat, ship, ferry or vessel etc can be a daunting task. Not only is there are a wide range of options available, but the cost of these systems also varies considerably. In addition, the environmental and cost benefits of these solutions are difficult to asses and compare against similar traditional systems.

Eco Marine Power can assist ship owners, shipyards, ferry operators & cruise lines to navigate through this maze of data and propose solutions that will best meet their needs. We can also help with advice on various technologies such as energy storage, solar panels, marine solar power and marine computer systems.

Eco-Ship, Green Ship & Sustainable Shipping Studies


Eco Marine Power is at the forefront of developing innovative ship design concepts and marine renewable energy solutions that use the power of the wind and sun to help power ships of all sizes.

As part of this work we undertake studies either alone or with technology partners to develop concept designs & specifications which have attracted worldwide attention. We then seek to work with ship designers, shipyards, government agencies or other interested parties to commercialise these designs.

Currently we are working on an Eco Ship concept study which will incorporate our patened Aquarius MRE SystemTM & EnergySail® (paten pending) technologies plus studying how solar-electric vessels can be used as part of a modern transport network on urban waterways.

In addition we are exploring the use of marine renewable energy technology on Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV's).

These solutions include our Aquarius MRE System, EnergySail & Aquarius Marine Solar Power which reduce fuel consumption, lower noxious gas emissions and deliver cost benefits.

The Aquarius Management and Automation System or Aquarius MAS is a cost effective alarm handling, monitoring, process handling and data logging platform suitable for a wide range of ships. The system is based upon the reliable and robust KEI 3240 Data Logger and is class approved. The Aquarius MAS can also monitor fuel use & calculate vessel emissions.
